The 21st Asian Men’s Handball Championship took place from January 11 to 25, 2024, across the cities of Manama and Isa Town in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This marked the fourth occasion that the competition was hosted by the Bahrain Handball Federation (BHF), having previously hosted it in 1993, 2014, and 2016. The competition served as a qualification tournament for the World Championship. The top four teams from the event would qualify for the 29th IHF Men’s Handball World Championship, scheduled to be held in Croatia, Denmark, and Norway from January 14 to February 2, 2025. New Zealand had the chance to qualify by achieving a ranking of fifth or higher.

Qatar was the defending champion, boasting an impressive record of five straight victories and clinching gold in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022. Japan eyed a historic 20th appearance after missing the 2022 edition due to COVID-19 challenges, closely followed by the Republic of Korea, marking their 19th appearance, and Bahrain, making their 18th appearance. Kazakhstan returned after 29 years, last seen in the 1995 edition held in Kuwait, while Chinese Taipei made a comeback after 24 years, with their last participation dating back to the 2000 edition in Japan. New Zealand was the sole team from Oceania, making their third appearance following their debut in 2018.

Qatar won the championship by defeating Japan in the final by 30-24, winning their sixth overall title. In addition to the winner, Qatar, Japan, Bahrain, and Kuwait qualified for the World Championship.
