The 1st GCC Youth Games was a groundbreaking multi-sport event for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in the United Arab Emirates from 16 April to 2 May 2024. The event brought together over 3,500 male and female athletes, who competed in 24 sports.
The opening ceremony took place at the iconic Dubai Opera on 23 April 2024, and was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including:
– His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council
– His Excellency Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi (Kuwait), Secretary General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf
– Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Vice-President of the United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Higher Organising Committee for the Games
The men’s handball competition was one of the highlights of the Games, that took place from 20 to 26 April 2024, at the Al-Bataeh Cultural and Sports Club Hall in Sharjah.
