Kazakhstan to host 20th Asian Women’s Handball Championship in Almaty

The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) is pleased to announce that the AHF Executive Committee has unanimously awarded the hosting rights for the 20th Asian Women’s Handball Championship to the Kazakhstan Handball Federation. The championship is scheduled to take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from 1 to 12 December 2024.

This will be Kazakhstan’s third time hosting the competition, with a 14-year gap since their previous hosting. They previously hosted the 9th and 13th editions in 2002 and 2010, respectively.

The Republic of Korea are the defending champions, having secured their sixteenth title in 2022 when they hosted the competition in Incheon / Seoul.

The competition will also serve as a qualifying event for the 27th IHF Women’s Handball World Championship, to be jointly hosted by Germany and the Netherlands in December 2025. The top four (4) teams from the Asian Championship will qualify for the global event.
