23rd IHF Women’s Junior Handball World Championship concluded in Slovenia

The 23rd IHF Women’s Junior Handball World Championship concluded in Slovenia today with Norway claiming the title by defeating Hungary in the final by 31–29. The event took place in 3 venues in 2 cities across Slovenia from June 22nd to July 3rd 2022. The following are the venues of the championship:

  • Golovec Sports Hall, Celje
  • Zlatorog Arena, Celje
  • Tri Lilije Hall, Laško

India, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea and Japan are the five Asian countries that have qualified for the event. India and Japan were drawn in Group A along with the Netherlands and Slovakia. I. R. Iran was drawn in Group B along with Guinea, Sweden, and Tunisia. Kazakhstan was drawn in Group G along with Austria, Croatia, and Switzerland, whereas the Republic of Korea was drawn in Group D along with Brazil, France, and Norway.

The results of India and Japan in the preliminary group are as follows:

  • Japan VS Slovakia 29–17
  • India VS Netherlands 18–46
  • Japan VS India 42–22
  • India VS Slovakia 12–59
  • Japan VS Netherlands 29–32

The results of I. R. Iran in the preliminary group are as follows:

  • I. R. Iran VS Guinea 19–19
  • I. R. Iran VS Tunisia 24–29
  • I. R. Iran VS Sweden 15–33

The results of Kazakhstan in the preliminary group are as follows:

  • Kazakhstan VS Croatia 15–36
  • Kazakhstan VS Switzerland 21–43
  • Kazakhstan VS Austria 18–39

The results of Republic of Korea in the preliminary group are as follows:

  • Republic of Korea VS Norway 22–26
  • Republic of Korea VS France 21–34
  • Republic of Korea VS Brazil 28–22

Japan advanced to the main round and was seeded in Group I with the Netherlands, Sweden, and Tunisia. India, I. R. Iran, Kazakhstan, and the Republic of Korea were relegated to the placement groups.

The results of Japan in the main group are as follows:

  • Japan VS Sweden 21–40
  • Japan VS Tunisia 34–24

Japan finished in 9th position at the event, whereas the Republic of Korea, India, Kazakhstan, and I. R. Iran finished in 19th, 26th, 28th, and 30th positions, respectively, out of a total of 32 participating teams.
