The 2nd IHF Women’s Youth (U18) Beach Handball World Championship concluded in Greece today with Spain claiming the title by defeating the Netherlands in the final by 2–1. The event took place at the Karteros Beach Sports Center, Heraklion, Greece from 14th to 19th June 2022.
Three Asian countries were qualified for the event, i.e., Thailand, and the debutants, India and Hong Kong (China). Thailand was drawn in Group A, whereas India and Hong Kong were drawn in Group B and Group D, respectively.
In the preliminary group stage, only Thailand was able to bag a win as they defeated Uruguay by 2–1. India was not able to win a single match in the preliminary group, losing all its matches against Spain, Brazil, and Ukraine. Hong Kong was the same, losing all the matches in the preliminary group against the Netherlands, Greece, and Puerto Rico.
Thailand advanced to the main round, where it was seeded in Group I with Brazil, Hungary, Poland, Spain, and Ukraine. Thailand only defeated Ukraine 2–1 in the main group.
Thailand finished in 11th position at the event, whereas India and Hong Kong finished in 14th and 16th position, respectively.
