Under the Patronage of the Emir of the State of Kuwait His Highness The Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and in the presence of the Prime Minister of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah the 3rd Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Games were officially opened Sunday evening with a magnificent ceremony held at the Arena Hall of Sheikh Jaber Al-Abdallah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah International Tennis Complex.
His Highness the Prime Minister welcomed gulf athletes in the land of “friendship and peace” Kuwait and wished them a pleasant stay. He also hoped the games achieve its noble goals of strengthening links between brothers in the gulf and that they improve their sports levels to enable them to compete in world events.
He said the government is keen on supporting the sports movement and provide all that is necessary to continue making achievements in the name of Kuwait.
His Highness the Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and all concerned departments.
Meanwhile, President of Kuwait Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah said Kuwait gave sports a priority out of its belief in social and sports responsibility and in confirmation of its future strategy to work on the development of the Olympic movement under the guidance of the Emir of the State of Kuwait His Highness The Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Crown Prince His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Handball at the 3rd Gulf Cooperation Council Games
The handball event, which will be only for the men’s teams, will take place at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah Indoor Sports Halls Complex in the Sabah Al-Salem area of Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate from May 25 to May 31, 2022, with hosts Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates participating in the event.
Handball has been featured at every edition of the GCC Games since its inaugural edition in Bahrain in 2011. Bahrain won the inaugural edition whereas Saudi Arabia claimed a gold medal in the previous edition, back in 2015, when they hosted the event in Dammam.
