5th Islamic Solidarity Games women’s handball competition concluded

The women’s handball competition of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games concluded in Turkey yesterday with hosts Turkey claiming the title by defeating Azerbaijan in the final by 30–24. The competition took place at the Selçuklu Municipality International Sports Hall, Selçuklu, Turkey, from 07 to 14 August 2022.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Uzbekistan are the four Asian countries that participated in the competition. Bangladesh and Uzbekistan were drawn in Group A along with Senegal and Turkey, whereas Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran were drawn in Group B along with Azerbaijan and Cameroon.

The results of Bangladesh and Uzbekistan in the preliminary group are as follows:

  • Uzbekistan VS Senegal 28–27
  • Bangladesh VS Turkey 10–51
  • Uzbekistan VS Bangladesh 42–20
  • Bangladesh VS Senegal 25–45
  • Uzbekistan VS Turkey 29–42

The results of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Afghanistan in the preliminary group are as follows:

  • Afghanistan VS I.R. Iran 06–43
  • I.R. Iran VS Cameroon 29–42
  • Afghanistan VS Azerbaijan 09–43
  • Afghanistan VS Cameroon 00–10
  • I.R. Iran VS Azerbaijan 17–26

In the semi-final match, Uzbekistan lost to Azerbaijan by 27–40. In the bronze medal match, Uzbekistan lost to Cameroon by 27–40.

Uzbekistan finished in 4th position in the competition, whereas I.R. Iran, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan finished in 6th, 7th, and 8th positions, respectively, out of a total of 8 participating teams.
