Delhi and Haryana won gold in 4th Khelo India Youth Games 2021

Delhi and hosts Haryana won gold medals in the handball competition of the 4th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2021.

This was the first time that handball has been featured at the KIYG, an annual national-level multidisciplinary sports event organised for grassroot talent hunting.

The handball competition took place from 9th to 13th June 2022 at the Multipurpose Hall at Tau Devilal Stadium, Panchkula, in the northern Haryana province of India.

Eight men’s and eight women’s teams from all over India participated in the competition, which was divided into 2 groups of 4 teams each.

Men’s handball competition

Eight teams, including hosts Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chhattisgarh, were qualified for the men’s competition.

Delhi won the gold medal by defeating hosts Haryana in the final match by 38–31.

1st – Delhi

2nd – Haryana

3rd – Jammu and Kashmir

3rd – Uttar Pradesh

Women’s handball competition

Eight teams, including hosts Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh, were qualified for the women’s competition.

Hosts Haryana won the gold medal with a 29–28 victory over Himachal Pradesh in the final match.

2nd – Himachal Pradesh

3rd – Delhi

3rd – Uttar Pradesh

The opening and closing ceremonies saw a number of dignitaries, including:

  3. Manohar Lal, Chief Minister of Haryana
  4. Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India
