Kuwait, 17 October 2022

The Asian Handball Federation (AHF) has awarded the hosting rights of the 17th Asian Women’s Junior (U20) Handball Championship to the Handball Association of Hong Kong, China (HAHKC). The championship is scheduled to be held from 4th to 13th July 2023 in Hong Kong, China.

If 10 or more teams participate in the championship, then the top 5 teams will directly qualify for the 24th IHF Women’s Junior (U20) Handball World Championship to be held in North Macedonia from 19th to 30th June 2024.

India is the defending champion, having won the title back in March 2022 in Almaty, Kazakhstan, where the Asian handball powerhouses, the Republic of Korea, China, and Japan, did not participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Republic of Korea are the record title holders, having won the championship 15 times in a row since the inaugural edition in 1990.
