In late August 2023, Iraq witnessed a significant milestone in the realm of handball coaching as the International Handball Federation (IHF) hosted two D-license coaching courses held in the cities of Baghdad and Erbil. A total of 66 enthusiastic participants embarked on this journey to enhance their coaching prowess.
Spanning from August 19 – 31, 2023, these courses, led by the distinguished IHF Handball at School expert, Dr. Nabeel Taha Al-Shehab (Bahrain), achieved an impressive feat with a 100% success rate. Every single participant emerged from the programme with their well-deserved D licence, a testament to their dedication and Dr. Al-Shehab’s guidance.
These IHF courses followed the traditional framework, encompassing both theoretical and practical components. Participants delved into a comprehensive curriculum covering various facets of handball coaching, such as training novices and young talents, specialised areas like attack and defence strategies, goalkeeping techniques, and meticulous training planning.
The importance of course was further underscored by the presence of Dr. Ahmed Riyadh Taleb, the President of the Iraqi Handball Federation, who attended the ceremonies surrounding these transformative courses. This initiative not only enhances the capabilities of Iraqi handball coaches but also fosters the growth of handball in the region, a promising step towards a brighter future for the sport.
