Korea into quarter-finals of Women’s Youth Handball World Championship 2022

The Republic of Korea has entered into the quarter-finals of the 9th edition of the IHF Women’s Youth (U18) Handball World Championship being held in Skopje, North Macedonia.

The Republic of Korea has a 100% win record in this edition up to now and has won all the 5 matches that they have played.

The competition started on July 30 with Korea facing Switzerland in their opening match of preliminary Group F. Korea defeated Switzerland by 32–28. In the second match, Korea defeated European silver medalist Germany comfortably by 34–28. In the third and last preliminary group match, Korea defeated Slovakia by 34–30.

In the main round, the Republic of Korea was seeded in Group III along with the Netherlands, Germany, and Romania. Korea defeated both Romania and the Netherlands by 33–31 and 26–24, respectively.

Kim Min-seo and Kim Seo-jin scored 40 and 34 goals for Korea, respectively, and are currently in 2nd and 8th place in the top goalscorers list. Korean goalkeeper Kim Ga-yeong has made more saves than any other goalkeeper in the competition. She saved 58 out of 182 shots, having a save rate of 32%.

 

The Republic of Korea is now set to face Sweden in the quarter-final on Sunday, August 7. In the 2018 edition, Korea won the bronze medal by defeating Sweden by 34–27.
