Qatar won gold medal in men’s handball event of 3rd Gulf Cooperation Council Games

Qatar has won gold medal in the men’s handball event of the 3rd Gulf Cooperation Council Games. Five countries, i.e., host Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, competed in the event held at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah Indoor Sports Halls Complex in the Sabah Al-Salem area of Kuwait from 25 to 31 May 2022.

The competition saw five nations compete in a round-robin tournament, with Qatar finishing the group in top position with four wins. Bahrain won 3 matches and lost to Qatar, finishing the group with 6 points. Kuwait finished in third position with 1 win, 1 draw, and 2 losses for a total of 3 points. The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia finished in 4th and 5th place, respectively.

Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait won gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively. This is the maiden gold medal for Asian powerhouse Qatar in the GCC Games. The previous edition, which was held in 2015 in Dammam, was won by the hosts Saudi Arabia, whereas Bahrain claimed the title in the inaugural edition, held in Manama in 2011.
