His Highness Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was one of the founders of the Asian Handball Federation (AHF). He was the first AHF President from 26 August 1974, until his death on 2 August 1990.

Biography

His Highness Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was born on 10 August 1945, in, Kuwait City, Sheikhdom of Kuwait, into the ruling Royal Family of Kuwait. He was the son of the Emir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and a grandson of the Emir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. He was educated in Kuwait for his primary and secondary schooling. He graduated from a military academy in the United Kingdom in 1964.

His Highness Sheikh Fahad was commissioned into the Kuwait Armed Forces on 22 April 1963, as an assistant officer. In July 1964, Sheikh Fahad went to the United Kingdom, where he pursued further military training. Sheikh Fahad was subsequently promoted to second lieutenant on 19 July 1965, and first lieutenant on 1 March 1967. On 7 June 1970, he was promoted to the rank of captain.

His Highness Sheikh Fahad was married and was the father of five sons and one daughter.

  • President of Kuwait Olympic Committee (1974–1985; 1989–2 August 1990)
  • President of Kuwait Football Association (1978–1985; 1987–2 August 1990)
  • President of Kuwait Basketball Federation (1974–1978)
  • President of Qadsia Sports Club (1969–1979)
  • Founder of Kuwait Taekwondo Federation

His Highness Sheikh Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah tragically lost his life to a sniper’s bullet on 2 August 1990, around 05:05 AM, at the age of 44, while bravely fighting alongside the Kuwait Emiri Guard in defense of Dasman Palace during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.

His Highness Sheikh Fahad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was succeeded by Mohammed Ali Abul as AHF Acting President until His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was elected as AHF President in 1991.
