The youth and junior teams from Uzbekistan triumphed at the Women’s IHF Trophy – Central Asia Zone III, which took place in Faisalabad, Pakistan, from 2 to 6 March 2023.
At the youth (U18) event, which was held in a double round-robin format, the Uzbeks claimed the maximum of eight points in four matches and secured their title already on Sunday. In the only Monday match, home side Pakistan defeated Tajikistan 30:23 to finish second with four points, while Tajikistan remained third with no points.
The junior (U20) competition ended with the final match on Monday, which featured the two best teams of the preliminary stage, Uzbekistan and Pakistan. In their mutual encounter on the event’s opening day, the Uzbeks earned a commanding 77:8 win, and while the final was much more balanced, Uzbekistan celebrated another victory (37:28).
As the winners of Zone III, both Uzbekistan teams have also qualified for the continental stage of the Women’s IHF Trophy.
