With only 19 days to go, the opening ceremony of the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) will take place at 8:00 PM on May 12, 2022 at Mỹ Đình National Stadium in Hanoi. This is Vietnam’s second time hosting the Games, the region’s biggest sports event, following the 22nd edition in 2003. To date, all-round preparations for the Games have been completed, and Vietnam is ready for the important festival.
The 31st SEA Games will be held in Hanoi, Vietnam from 12 to 23 May 2022, with both Indoor Handball and Beach Handball being part of the event together for the first time in history.
The beach handball event, which will be only for the men’s teams, will take place at the beach of Tuần Châu Island on the southwest side of Hạ Long City, from 6 to 11 May 2022, with hosts Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore participating in the event. The Hạ Long City is famous for its emerald waters and thousands of towering limestone islands topped by rainforests.
This will be the second time that beach handball has been a part of the SEA Games after it made its debut at the 30th edition held in the Philippines back in 2019. In that edition, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines won gold, silver, and bronze medals respectively.
The Indoor Handball event will be for both men’s and women’s teams and will take place at the Bắc Ninh Sports University Gymnasium, in the northern Bắc Ninh province of Vietnam, from 15 to 21 May 2022, with Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore participating in both categories.
