Al-Kuwait Club won the 24th Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship

The Al-Kuwait Club (Kuwait) has won the 24th edition of the Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship. Eight clubs from six countries competed in the event held at the G. M. C. Balayogi Indoor Stadium, Hyderabad, India, from 22nd to 30th June 2022.

The competition saw eight clubs divided into two groups of four teams each. Al-Qadsia Club (Kuwait) and Al-Arabi Club (Qatar) from Group A and Al-Najma Club (Bahrain) and Al-Kuwait Club (Kuwait) from Group B progressed to the semi-finals, whereas Al-Noor Club (Saudi Arabia), Al-Wakrah Club (Qatar), T-Sports Club (India) and Sanat Mes Kerman Club (I. R. Iran) were relegated to the 5th – 8th placement matches.

The first semi-final was an all-Kuwaiti encounter as Al-Kuwait Club defeated Al-Qadsia Club by 25–20. In the second semi-final, Al-Najma Club (Bahrain) defeated Al-Arabi Club (Qatar) narrowly by one goal margin, 22–21.

In the bronze medal match, Kuwait’s Al-Qadsia Club defeated Al-Arabi Club (Qatar) by 28–27. In the final match, Al-Kuwait Club (Kuwait) defeated Al-Najma Club (Bahrain) by 28–23.

This is the first time that Al-Kuwait Club has won the Asian Men’s Club League Handball Championship. It is after a 13-year gap that a Kuwaiti club wins the championship. Last time, Al-Salibikhaet Club from Kuwait won the championship back in 2009 when it was held in Amman, Jordan.

Al-Kuwait Club (Kuwait) has qualified for the 16th IHF Men’s Super Globe, to be held in Saudi Arabia from 17th to 23rd October 2022.
