Iran to host Asian Beach Handball Championships

Kuwait, 17 February 2022

The Asian Handball Federation’s Executive Committee has awarded the hosting rights of the 8th Asian Men’s Beach Handball Championship and the 2nd Asian Men’s Youth (U-19) Beach Handball Championship to the Islamic Republic of Iran Handball Federation (IRIHF).

In a meeting held on 17 February 2022 via online mode, the AHF Executive Committee approved the proposal to organize both the championships simultaneously from 22 to 31 March 2022 at Kish Island in the southern Hormozgan Province of the Islamic Republic of Iran. 

 

8th Asian Men’s Beach Handball Championship

The Asian Men’s Beach Handball Championship is returning to Iran after 15 years as they also hosted the 2nd edition of the championship back in the 2007 in Bandar Abbas. The previous edition of the championship was held in Weihai, China, with Qatar claiming their fifth title in a row by winning over Oman in the final by 2-0. Iran defeated Vietnam in the third place match by 2-1.

The top two (2) teams from the championship will qualify for the 10th IHF Men’s Beach Handball World Championship, to be held in Heraklion, Greece, from 21 to 26 June 2022.

 

2nd Asian Men’s Youth (U-19) Beach Handball Championship

The 2nd Asian Men’s Youth (U-19) Beach Handball Championship will be for under-19 players born between 1 Jan 2004 and 31 December 2006. The first edition of the championship was held in 2016 in Pattaya, Thailand, with the hosts winning the title, whereas Chinese Taipei and Pakistan claimed silver and bronze medals respectively.

The top three (3) teams from the championship will qualify for the 2nd IHF Men’s Youth Beach Handball World Championship to be held in Heraklion, Greece, from 14 to 19 June 2022.
