Islamic Republic of Iran won the 9th Asian Women's Youth Handball Championship

The Islamic Republic of Iran won the Asian Women’s Youth (U-19) Handball Championship for the first time ever. Five (5) teams were competing in Kazakhstan for the continental title and a place at the 9th IHF Women’s Youth Handball World Championship in Georgia in 2022. During the competition at Almaty’s Universal Sports Complex Dostyk, held from 18 to 25 March 2022, ten (10) games were played in total. I. R. Iran won all four (4) of its matches and was crowned as gold medal winners. This is also I. R. Iran’s first medal at the championship ever.


With their victory, the Islamic Republic of Iran became the second nation to win a gold medal in the championship’s all-time medal table, following the Republic of Korea. Since the inaugural edition of the championship in 2005, Korea has won all eight (8) previous editions.


Hosts Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively. This is the first silver medal for Kazakhstan in the history of the championship, as they won three bronze medals back in 2009, 2011, and 2013. The bronze medal won by Uzbekistan is their first ever medal won by the country at any age level of the Asian Championships.


The Islamic Republic of Iran and Kazakhstan will represent Asia in the 9th IHF Women’s Youth Handball World Championship to be held from 3 to 14 August 2022 in Georgia.
