30 April 2022

Hosts Thailand has won the 2nd edition of the Asian Women’s Youth (U-19) Beach Handball Championship. Three countries, i.e., host Thailand, Hong Kong, and debutant India, competed in the event held at the Sports Authority of Thailand Huamark, Bangkok, from April 25 to 30, 2022.

The competition saw three nations compete in a double-round-robin tournament, with both Thailand and India winning three of their four matches. Debutant India caused a major upset in the first match, defeating hosts and previous edition’s silver medalist Thailand by 2–0 (16:15, 13:12). On the fourth day of the competition, Thailand took revenge by defeating India by 2–0 (12:7, 17:13). Thus, Thailand and India both got 6 points for 3 wins and 1 loss in the group.

Due to a better goal difference, Thailand took the gold medal in the competition, and India won the silver medal. Hong Kong could not win any of their four matches and had to be content with the bronze medal.

Thailand, India, and Hong Kong have qualified for the 2nd IHF Women’s Youth Beach Handball World Championship to be held in Heraklion, Greece from June 14 to 19, 2022.
